About

Who publishes Mom Wanders, and why

One moment, one reader. The dementia diagnosis has landed, and Mom is trying to leave the house at dusk.

Who publishes this

Mom Wanders is published by OwnersFirm, a St. Louis company that builds reference sites for families at particular moments of crisis and places one paid, labelled advertisement on each of them. There is no named human author on this site, on purpose. Nobody here is a clinician, and a byline would suggest an authority the desk does not have. What the desk has instead is the discipline described below.

Why this site exists

Most pages about dementia are written for everyone, which means they are written for no one at six in the evening. This site is written for one person: the daughter in Chesterfield whose mother in Ballwin was diagnosed a few months ago, who got a call from a neighbor last Tuesday, and who is now watching the front door as the light changes. It covers the late-day window, the doorway, the house, the first fifteen minutes if she is gone, the night, and the local lifelines. It does not cover statistics, stages, or treatments, because those belong to other places and, in the case of treatments, to her doctor.

How it is written

  • Each number is cited where it is used. The Alzheimer's Association, the National Institute on Aging, the Family Caregiver Alliance, Medicare, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Aging Ahead, the City of St. Louis, and Washington University's Knight Alzheimer Disease Research Center. Each page was fetched and checked on the date the sources list shows. If a fact was not on a public page we could open, it is not on this site.
  • The source's own words and numbers. Six in 10 stays six in 10. Fifteen minutes stays fifteen minutes. 800-272-3900 is printed the way the Association prints it.
  • No medical advice. Every article that touches a clinical edge has a section called "When to ask the care team or the doctor," and that section sends the question off the page.
  • No prices, no reviews, no rankings. Nothing here is scored. No company is compared with another. No facility, hospital or hospice is criticized.
  • No tracking. No analytics tag runs on these pages. The only form on the site asks for a name, a phone number and a town, and says out loud not to type health details into it.
  • Her name is Mom. The person at the door is somebody's mother, and the site never calls her anything else.

The one paid placement

There is exactly one commercial thing on this site, and this is it, disclosed the same way on every page it appears.

What the placement is not

It is not a recommendation drawn from anything on this site, because nothing on this site measures companies. It is not a claim about licensing, certification or accreditation; the State of Missouri issues no license for this category of company, and this site restates no such claim. It is not a price. It is an advertisement with a phone number, from an independently owned non-medical in-home care company that is a client of the publisher, and the two companies are not commonly owned. If you would rather not deal with it at all, every article on this site works without it.

If something here is wrong

Sources move. Phone numbers change. If a link on this site no longer says what we say it says, the sources page carries the date we last checked, and the publisher corrects pages when a reader points to the page that changed.
